The Mutiny on the Bounty in 1789, Bligh's Impossible Boat Voyage, and the Secret of Pitcairn
On 28 April 1789 Fletcher Christian seized HMS Bounty and set Captain Bligh adrift with 18 men in an open launch. Bligh sailed it 3,618 nautical miles to Timor and lived to be court-martialled and acquitted. The mutineers vanished with Tahitian companions to unlocated Pitcairn Island, burned the ship — and were found 18 years later: one ageing mutineer, nine widows, and a village of children.
