The Eleven-Month French Revolutionary Terror of 1793-1794 During Which the Revolutionary Tribunal Executed Approximately 17,000 People by Guillotine
The Reign of Terror ran from 5 September 1793 to 27 July 1794. The Committee of Public Safety under Maximilien Robespierre executed about 17,000 people for political offences. About 10,000 more died in prison without sentence. Robespierre himself was guillotined on 28 July 1794.
