The First Human Landing on Another World in the Sea of Tranquillity on the Evening of 20 July 1969
The Lunar Module Eagle of Apollo 11 landed in the Sea of Tranquillity on the Moon at 8:17 p.m. UTC on 20 July 1969. Neil Armstrong stepped onto the surface six hours later at 2:56 a.m. UTC on 21 July. He and Edwin Aldrin spent 21 hours on the surface before returning to lunar orbit. The mission returned to Earth on 24 July.
