The Assassination of Shaka Zulu by His Brothers on 22 September 1828
In twelve years Shaka built the Zulu from a minor chiefdom into the dominant military power of southern Africa. After his mother's death in 1827 his rule turned erratic and murderous, and on 22 September 1828 his half-brothers Dingane and Mhlangana stabbed him to death. Tradition gives him a dying prophecy: his killers would not rule, for the white people were coming.
