The Roman Magistrate Who Rediscovered Archimedes's Forgotten Tomb in Syracuse in 75 BC
Cicero served as quaestor in Sicily in 75 BC. While there, he tracked down and restored the long-neglected tomb of Archimedes, which the local Syracusan authorities had substantially forgotten the existence of. He identified it by the famous sphere-in-cylinder carving Archimedes had requested as his grave marker.
