The German Astronomer Killed in 1617 By a Peasant He Had Accused of Stealing a Goose
David Fabricius was a Lutheran pastor and astronomer in East Frisia who corresponded with Tycho Brahe and Kepler, observed the first known variable star (Mira Ceti) in 1596, and made independent sunspot observations in 1611. He was killed in May 1617 by a parishioner he had accused from the pulpit of stealing a goose.
