The Vasa, the most expensively armed warship in the world, capsized in Stockholm harbour on 10 August 1628 after sailing barely 1,300 metres, killing around 30 people. Everyone knew she was unstable; nobody could tell the king. Raised in 1961, she is now the world's best-preserved 17th-century ship.
