Genghis Khan Genghis Khan (c. 1162-1227), born Temüjin, united the Mongol tribes in 1206 and founded the largest contiguous land empire in history. His campaigns killed on a scale debated ever since; his law, postal relay, and religious tolerance ran an empire from the Pacific to the Caspian. His grave has never been found.
