What was the verdict in Marguerite Steinheil's 1909 trial for the murders of her mother and her husband?
The jury acquitted Marguerite Steinheil on both counts on 14 November 1909, after a deliberation of approximately 40 minutes. The acquittal scandalised much of Paris. She emigrated to England in 1917, married Lord Abinger in 1927, and lived quietly in Kent until her death in 1954. She had been at the bedside of President Félix Faure on the afternoon of his 1899 death at the Élysée.
