From the story
The Dyatlov Pass Incident of February 1959, in Which Nine Experienced Hikers Cut Their Way Out of Their Own Tent

In February 1959 nine experienced Soviet ski-hikers died on the slope of Kholat Syakhl in the northern Urals.
