The Tri-State Tornado of 18 March 1925, Which Ran 350 Kilometres and Killed 695 People Without a Word of Warning On 18 March 1925 a single immense tornado tracked some 350 kilometres across Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana in three and a half hours, killing 695 people — the deadliest tornado in US history. Official forecasts of the era were forbidden to use the word "tornado."
